Vacuum System - Step 3
Vacuum System Setup
1) The system layout was inspired by the builder of Rutu. It has quick connecters to attach the hoses, ball valves between segments, and two hookups for vacuums. We will use a 6hp shopvak to suck all the air out of the system and two high power pumps to increase the vacuum and hold it stable.
Good view of the connector to the shopvak.
The vacuum high power pumps were setup by Steve and are working great, just to show you pyros know more than how to blow stuff up they can also suck, these guys can pull 30"Hg but we will need to reduce it to 17"Hg.
The shopvac will be used to get the volume of air from the system, it can pull about 5"Hg and will be used for getting everything ready.
After glueing all the parts together the system is sealed and ready to pull.
Overview of the controls (from the bottom up):
  • Left Ball Valve, High Power Vacuum
  • Right Ball Valve, Shopvac/Bleeder
  • Center, A few T's to make it stiffer
  • Left/Right Ball Valves, control each side of the tent.
  • Left/Right 2" Vacuum Gauges, each side can be controlled independently
  • Left/Right 18"X2" accumulator/trap, to keep trash and epoxy from getting into the pumps/gaudes.
  • Left/Right Ball Valves(2), these control 2 of 4 quick connects on each side with the top valve for the outside two.
  •   Vacuum system in action, Using the venturi pump as the main and the big 30hg vacuum as our backup.
